Finalmente sarà possibile rivedere sul grande schermo Jack Nicholson nei panni di Jack Torrance, scrittore in crisi che per ritrovare l’ispirazione accetta un posto di guardiano durante la stagione invernale in un grande albergo sulle Montagne Rocciose. E lentamente scivola nella follia, fino alla mitica scena dove sfonda con un’ascia la porta del bagno, dove si è nascosta la moglie Wendy interpretata dalla terrorizzatissima (per davvero) Shelley Duvall.
Stephen King ha appena compiuto 70 anni e uno dei suoi romanzi più celebri, Shining, ne festeggia 40 dalla pubblicazione. Dal romanzo di Stephen King del 1977 che più lo ispirò, Stanley Kubrick trasse nel 1980, questo capolavoro, che potremo rivedere al cinema. Quando? Ad Halloween naturalmente e per tre giorni (31 ottobre e 1-2 novembre), nel corso dei quali sarà possibile vedere la versione da 119 minuti del film horror più grande di sempre.
Un evento speciale che verrà preceduto dalla proiezione del corto inedito intitolato Work and play, che rende omaggio alla frase che Jack Torrance scrive ossessivamente: "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" nella versione inglese del film, che nella versione italiana è diventata “Il mattino ha l’oro in bocca”.
Un film cupo, claustrofobico, dove Kubrick rivoluziona il genere, come ha sempre fatto, con il suo tocco rende arte ciò che sulla carta non ha chance di essere definita tale. Prende di petto il genere horror per piegarlo al proprio genio. Il film è fatto di segnali ambigui, dove l'orrore è tanto più profondo quanto meno interpretabile (realtà, allucinazione?), "Shining" si muove tra favola e racconto gotico, con momenti memorabili: le chiacchierate tra Torrance e il fantasma del barista, Danny che si aggira nei corridoi sulla sua biciclettina e l'inseguimento finale nel labirinto innevato.
